So nice to see you here! Thank you for joining me.
I recall a line from Lewis Caroll’s Alice In Wonderland, where Alice is told to ‘start at the beginning, go to the end, and then stop’. This is sound advice, and I often mutter it to myself when I’m not sure where to start.
I’m not sure that there is a beginning to this, and I certainly don’t have the foresight to plan an ending quite yet. So perhaps this will just be a really long middle.
This is the first in a series of posts I’ll be making - written for myself, and for the viewing of family and friends. If you’re neither to me, then I hope you’ll introduce yourself and we can get to know one another.
So why did I start a newsletter?
The great thing about the internet is how we can choose what we pay attention to, what we’d like to hear about, and how we’d like to spend our time. I’ve found myself growing disenchanted with social media recently, largely due to its addictive quality and my total lack of self control.

Me, falling down the rabbit hole (aka scrolling through instagram)
I don’t have what I consider to be a strong will power - I’ve started gym programs and online courses, coaching programs and podcast, all with grandiose ideas of self-improvement, and often with poor execution. Two weeks in, I ditch the new protein shake or forget my login to the online course, and get distracted by something else shiny.
All of this can be boiled down to the importance of commitment in forming new habits. I was in the habit of scrolling through social media, curating and thinking far too much about what I was posting and how others might view me.
I was forced to think about what the purpose of social media is in my life - and it came down to wanting to keep people I love updated on my life, as well as keeping a time capsule for myself to come back to in future years. I live what I consider to be a pretty interesting life, and documenting my experiences, learnings and thoughts is important to me.
With all of this in mind, I decided it is time to start a new habit - of writing regularly and thoroughly - and what better way to start a new habit than to hold yourself accountable to people you love. Plus - I want you to choose to hear from me, only if you want and in your own time, rather than passively scrolling through social media and seeing my photos with little to no context of what’s actually going on.
Those that love me know that I’m also pretty terrible at keeping in touch while I’m traveling - and I’m always traveling (thanks for your patience!) - while I know this is not a replacement, maybe you’ll enjoy the updates.
So I hope that this newsletter will entertain you, and also let my grandparents know I’m still alive out there somewhere.

She’s somewhere alright
I won’t spoil you with any indicator on how often you can expect to hear from me - I’m not sure what this routine will look like yet. But subscribe, and you’ll hear from me soon enough.
See you next time,
Kat
